Sxwōxwiyám
In the beginning, the world full of chaos and disorder. The Chíchelh Sí:yam, Great Spirit, (creator of the Earth and humankind) sent the Transformer Siblings, XeXá:ls, to make the world right. The siblings were the children of Red-headed Woodpecker and Black Bear, three bear brothers and one bear sister. They travelled upriver from the mouth of the Fraser, transforming the ancestors of the Stó:lō into specific plants, animals, and landforms. Sxwōxwiyám connect the Stó:lō to the land, their history, and each other. Sxwōxwiyám are their origin stories.
